About Us

Our Vision

That effective inclusive policies and programs exist across all sectors of the community so that all Canberrans can enjoy equitable treatment to enable them to fully participate in all aspects of community life and to reach their potential.

Our mission

To advocate for, and represent the ideas and voices of, members of the Canberra community and, in particular, people from diverse culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, to shape relevant and effective inclusive policies and programs across all sectors of the ACT community.

Fair Canberra Inc advocates for and influences public policy outcomes through planned, organised and sustained actions, networking, activities and commentary on specific issues facing Canberrans, with a focus on those issues that impact on people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Fair Canberra Inc advocates for policies and decisions to better support marginalised Canberrans through mechanisms such as direct individualised engagement, consultative fora, subject specific surveys, formally commissioned research as well as responding to formal Inquiries and hearings on relevant issues through representations and submissions.

Fair Canberra Inc. produces research and analysis that illustrates the realities of poverty, lack of opportunity, bigotry, and social exclusion involving those who are marginalised in our community – especially looking at those issues facing people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including people of colour, living, working, studying and raising families in the ACT.

Through its various activities, Fair Canberra Inc involves people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds – especially women, youth and refugees – who are excluded and marginalised and encourages and supports them to identify and rectify injustices, racism and other forms of discrimination.

We work closely with the leadership and membership of local multicultural and other community groups and service providers so they can deliver quality direct services, activities and programs to meet the needs of the cohort of interest to Fair Canberra Inc.

Advocacy and Representation

Fair Canberra Inc is a thriving advocate dedicated to building an inclusive and fair environment in the Australian Capital Territory. We ensure the views of different community members are heard and promote for inclusive policies and programmes in Canberra, striving for fair treatment for all members of the community, with a special emphasis on representing individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. We collaborate to achieve the organization’s objective by drawing on our different backgrounds and talents. Supporters and sponsors, such as The Hellenic Club of Canberra, DR Print and others, help
the programmes succeed by encouraging people to become members, volunteers, donors or corporate partners. In addition, through projects like the Parents and Children Cyber Safety Yarning Circles in collaboration with the University of Canberra, we strive to fill key gaps in the digital era, such as the need for effective interventions for Indigenous communities.

Engagement and Support
Fair Canberra Inc. supports multicultural communities through activities such as the Mental Wellness Workshop and the Parents and Children Cyber Safety Yarning Circles, which address critical challenges in the digital era. Our involvement extends to educational help like Back-to-School Supplies Programme, which provided migrant pupils with backpacks and supplies.
We demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity and community welfare by supporting Commonwealth Day Celebrations and Africa in the Park, both of which emphasise diversity and unity. The Hellenic Club of Canberra, the University of Canberra, DR Print, Iconic Mortgage Solutions, Region Media (RiotACT) and Nim Osborne Real Estate have all contributed financially to the success of our programmes and events. Our participation, whether through membership, volunteering, donations, or corporate collaborations, indicates our desire for ongoing community support and collaboration in the coming years.

Community Activities
Fair Canberra Inc organised and supported a number of events, including a major ‘Photographic and Cultural Exhibition’  commemorating Australia-China diplomatic relations’ 50th anniversary. We support multicultural events such as the ‘Africa in the Park Festival’ and the ‘Commonwealth Day Celebrations’. Addressing current issues by hosting events such as the ‘Parents and Children Cyber Safety – Yarning Circles’ initiative, participating in mental health workshops, and facilitating a Legal Aid and Appreciative Leadership Workshop to promote an open and supportive community in Canberra. We have also distributed back-to-school supplies, supported cultural events, and actively participated in fundraising efforts.
